Just closed the doors on my final day of Open Studios. It was my first time doing this event as an artist, and overall it has been a wonderful experience. Setting up was as stressful as I thought it would be, having to completely re-arrange the house, and hang all the pictures. I’d worried that I might not have enough work to show, however once it was all up I was very proud of what I had achieved – to see all my work hung together made me realise all I had achieved in such a short space of time.
My first visitors arrived at 5 minutes past 12 on the first day (I’d opened at 12), which meant I was immediately into action and didn’t have to sit wondering whether anyone would come at all. They had sought me out from the brochure as wanting to see my work, so not casual browsers, and they bought a print, so I couldn’t have wished for a better start. Over the 3 weekends I was open I had the full range of visitors; friends and family; neighbours from up and down the road wanting to see what was going on (“I didn’t know we had an artist on the street!”); regular Open Studios visitors and other artists; and people who were seriously wanting to buy a picture. The best thing of course was all the wonderful feedback from almost everyone who visited – I tried to gauge which was people’s favourite piece, but I think everything I had drew the attention and praise of somebody who visited. Probably overall the Polperro Harbour picture above was the most popular (and my current favourite!).
So a fantastic experience for me, thank you if you did manage to pop by, and I’ll definitely be “Open Studios” next year!

Is the Polperro picture for sale? Thanks M

Hi Marc. Thanks for your interest in my work. I’ve done several pictures of Polperro, so I’m afraid I’m not too sure which one you’re referring to. If you look on the Art page on my website, http://www.davenelsonart.com/art, you will find all my pictures. I’ve sold some of the Polperro ones, but still have 2 remaining. However all the pictures are also available as prints, unframed or framed.
