The Texture of Landscape – My first solo show
Sunbury Millenium Embroidery Gallery – Dave Nelson, The Texture of Landscape
So the Summer is in last knockings, and my thoughts are very much turning to my Sunbury show. Just over a month to go now and I’m busy co-ordinating publicity leaflets and of course these days social media. And finalising the pictures I’m going to put in the show. This is my first solo show and it’s incredibly exciting, I’m so looking forward to it. I do hope you’ll be able to get to Sunbury to see the show in October. There is a Private View on Thursday 13th October, to which you’ll be especially welcome. Do let me know if you’d like to go to this, and I can give you more details. And I’m also running a workshop on Saturday 15th October. The exhibition will be on every day except Mondays throughout October, and Sunbury makes a lovely trip – more about this in next month’s newsletter.
Some great news – I have had 2 pictures accepted for this prestigious national exhibition! It will be on at the Mall Galleries (just off Trafalgar Square) in November. This is my first time in a national exhibition like this one, so I am really thrilled (and surprised!). I’ve only just heard, so watch out for details in future newsletters. Both works were from the Galleries series, so I’m pushing on with doing more of these, they seem to be well liked.
As you read this, Herts Open Studios has already kicked off, and runs through until 25th September. I’m getting ready for my own event, which kicks off with a special Friends Preview evening on Thursday 15th September. If you are in St. Albans at all, please do drop in and say hello, either on this evening or the following 2 weekends (17th/18th and 24th/25th). And there are over 150 artists open across the county, and they’re all very friendly, honest! Find the details on the website here.
Slade School of Art
I’ve just returned from 2 weeks at the Slade Summer School. The Slade is one of our oldest and most revered Art Schools, and it was indeed a wonderful experience, working in the same studios where the likes of Paul Nash, Stanley Spencer and Antony Gormley studied. The course was on Colour, and so here’s my study on Yellow, a tribute to Euan Uglow, another famous Slade alumni.
